What is the Purpose of a Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL)?

The Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) plays several critical roles in a typical fuel cell application and is often integrated as part of the Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA). Typical applications that use GDLs consist of Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells (PEMFC) and Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFC). When a GDL is coated with a catalyst it is than referred to as a Gas Diffusion Electrode (GDE), which are sometimes sold or installed separately from the Membrane or MEA.  Acting as an electrode is the easy … [Read more...]

Fuel Cells Etc. Announces ELAT™ Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) is Back at a Fraction of the Cost

NuVant Systems has released ELAT™ LT-1400 Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) back on to the market at a fraction of the cost while naming FuelCellsEtc as their sole distributor. The new price of ELAT is expected to make the product far more suitable in cost sensitive applications than it has ever been in the past. FuelCellsEtc will also be providing value added services of manufacturing catalyzed Electrodes (gas diffusion electrodes) and Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEA) using ELAT.ELAT is a woven … [Read more...]
