Silver Catalysts

Silver Catalysts

Silver catalysts for CO₂ reduction, alkaline and anion-exchange-membrane fuel cells, metal-air batteries, and electrochemical research.

XT silver catalysts are carbon-supported powders for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline electrolyte and for CO₂ reduction to carbon monoxide. Loadings are available on Vulcan XC-72R and Ketjenblack.

In a CO₂ electrolyzer, silver is the cathode catalyst for carbon monoxide. The anode catalyst is selected separately. In alkaline and anion-exchange-membrane fuel cells, and in zinc-air and aluminum-air air electrodes, silver is the oxygen-reduction catalyst. The same powders are used in electrochemical sensors and in oxygen-depolarized cathode work.

These are not conventional PEM fuel-cell cathodes. Platinum-based catalysts are the standard for acidic oxygen reduction. The carbon support disperses the silver for ink formulation and electrode development. The powders can also be coated into gas diffusion electrodes.
