Description
The 40% Ruthenium on Ketjenblack EC-300J manufactured by Fuel Cells Etc is a fine powder that can be used as a catalyst or electrocatalyst in various electrochemical and chemical applications, such as the following examples:
- Hydrogen evolution reaction or HER,
- Water splitting reaction,
- Electrochemical sensors,
- Formic acid dehydrogenation,
- On-demand hydrogen generation from ammonia borane, sodium borohydride, and other chemical hydrides via hydrolysis reaction,
- Aqueous nitrate/nitrite reduction (denitrification, often yielding NH3/N2),
- Catalytic wet air oxidation (for the destruction of recalcitrant organics in wastewater),
- Hydrodechlorination of chlorophenols (for water treatment),
- Hydrodeoxygenation and hydrogenolysis of lignin-derived phenolics and β-O-4 cleavage (such as phenol to cyclohexane),
- Cellulose upgrading (hydrolytic hydrogenation to sorbitol and related polyols),
- Sugar/biopolymer upgrading (such as glucose to sorbitol),
- Biomass furanics (such as furfural to furfuryl alcohol and tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol),
- Biomass platform molecules (such as levulinic acid to γ-valerolactone),
- Hydrogenation of nitroarenes to anilines,
- Carbonyl hydrogenation in aqueous phase (such as butanone to 2-butanol, lactic acid to 1,2-propanediol),
- Selective hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes/ketones,
- Hydrogenation of aromatic rings (such as benzene to cyclohexane),
- Sabatier reaction (CO/CO₂ methanation)
This product has a BET surface area of ~430-470 m2/gram. The average crystallite size for Ru nanoparticles is calculated as ~5.14 nm for this product. The average particle size for this supported catalyst material was measured as ~34.7 microns.
